Chapter Sixteen

Blu

Iwas serious when I told June that I was considering killing Mrs. Moon’s husband. I’m not one hundred percent sure he would be my next victim since I nor my beast have ever seen him, but the more she cries on my couch, the more I hate that fucker and need him to disappear. The only way she’ll stop crying about her fucking husband is if he’s no longer a part of the picture.

After her next appointment a week later, I call June and ask him over for dinner. He didn’t work today and said he’d be ready by the time I got off. I want to try something new, something different, and for some reason, I need him there with me. I’m not sure why. It’s not like something bad will happen if what I have in mind doesn’t work, but I’ll feel better if he’s there.

Feel. I never thought I’d use that word genuinely.

When I started having such strong feelings for June, I contacted a colleague that specializes in diagnoses and treated people with psychopathic and sociopathic tendencies and antisocial personality disorder, asking him a few questions. From what he said, psychopaths can feel love for their partners, but not for many other people. He also said the love may be toxic and obsessive, but it’s a feeling that is valid.

Do I love June or am I just too obsessed with him? Either way, I know I have feelings for him and that revelation makes me want to never let him go.

After I had the thought of killing Mrs. Moon’s husband, I tried to look him up, but came up with too many Mr. Moons to narrow it down to her husband. So during her appointment, I asked a few questions to figure out what he did and why he was so wealthy, so I could pinpoint exactly who he was.

Turns out, Moon wasn’t his last name. Jackson-Herr is his last name. As in the largest real estate developer in the state, Gordon Jackson-Herr. After she divulged that tidbit, she spilled her guts, saying how he didn’t want her to take his last name to stay away from possible scandals, but she really thought it was so he could pretend he was single.

I’ve never seen a photo of him, but his name is on almost every sign when there’s a development going up and I’ve heard his name plenty around town. We’ll see if he’s the next one on my list.

I’m in my living room, waiting for June to show up while I think about why I’m trying something new. Patients bother me all the time, but I feel no need to solve any of their problems. Killing Jackson-Herr is one hundred percent self-serving, so I wouldn’t say I’m fixing Mrs. Moon’s problems as much as fixing my Mrs. Moon problem. I swear if she makes another appointment telling me her husband is cheating just to get out of her house, I’ll stab her in the neck with my pen and think about how to hide the body later.
